Workshops

Participants at Art History Workshop 2

The Colombo center holds small invitational workshops on a broad range of topics relevant to humanities and social science scholarship on Sri Lanka. Recent workshops have covered the social and political position of Up-Country Tamils in the twenty-first century, post-war visual culture, and twentieth-century Sinhala light-classical song.

In the United States, AISLS sometimes convenes a forum at the annual meeting of the Association for Asian Studies, and from time to time sponsors a symposium at the Annual Conference on South Asia. At present, AISLS is also co-sponsoring a series of graduate student workshops with the South Asia Program, Cornell University.

Occasionally, AISLS also co-sponsors workshops with other overseas research centers that are members of the Council of American Overseas Research Centers. An event of this kind was the symposium on Extreme Weather, Disasters and Indigenous Practices in South Asia, which was held as a pre-conference to the Annual Conference on South Asia in Madison on October 16, 2014.
