The American Institute for Sri Lankan Studies (AISLS) was established in 1996. Its central objectives are to promote US research and teaching on Sri Lanka and to build links between US and Sri Lankan scholars and institutions. It has 24 institutional and over 110 individual members.

AILS Colombo Center

AILS Colombo Center

The American Institute for Lankan Studies is located in Colombo. The center’s staff maintains a library and provides support and advice for visiting scholars.

The AILS library has over 1,500 academic books relevant to social science & humanities research on Sri Lanka. Staff can also recommend specialist libraries in Colombo & Sri Lanka.

AISLS offers research fellowships for US citizens, and smaller grants for pre-dissertation research, language study in Sri Lanka, and student travel to selected conferences.
