Everyday Lankan History: Forgotten Lives Under Colonial Rule
This website is part of the historical research project, Colonialism Inside Out: everyday experience and plural practice in Dutch Institutions in Sri Lanka 1700 – 1800, based on the Dutch language archives that are kept in the Sri Lanka National Archives. The site contains re-creations of the life stories of several early-modern Lankans by using the mentions of them that appear in archival documents. The site includes images and an interactive map, as well as several articles that introduce readers to the Dutch colonial systems of religion, land, and law.
