The collection’s main focus is on environmental conservation, ecology and natural resource management, with a special emphasis on publications from the late twentieth century. Topics include conflicts over natural resources, sustainable agriculture, poultry farming, and fisheries. The library also holds seminal books on South Asian ecology and natural resource management (by authors such as Vandana Shiva and a number of other local authorities) in all three languages (including translations). Most of the available translations are politically oriented towards environmental conservation. The collection includes letters and writings of Mr. Sarath Fernando – the founder of the network and a prominent environmental activist in Sri Lanka. It also holds official policy documents (acts, laws, cabinet papers and white papers) from the post-liberalisation era (1977 onwards) related to natural resource management (in particular water and land) in Sri Lanka. There is also a run of the “Sandeshaya” magazine – MONLAR’s own publication.
