The University of Manchester Library
The University of Manchester Library, in partnership with Paramaththa and the International Centre for Theravada Buddhism, has digitized almost three dozen palm-leaf manuscripts from its collection. These are all in the Pali language written in Sinhala script. The digital collection comprises canonical texts and commentaries, some of which are rare to find in complete manuscript form, such as Pattāna Prakārana and Nettipakaraṇa. These palm-leaf manuscripts are part of the larger Rylands Collection, which contains several other digitized items of some rarity, including an 1894 paper manuscript copy of the Pali Apadāna, an eighteenth-century canvas tapestry painting of the Buddha, an ivory book cover, and an artifact from the Boer POWs in Ceylon. The high-resolution images can be viewed online or individually downloaded.
