Alex McKinley has studied the religious traditions of Sri Lanka and their intersections since first visiting the island on the ISLE program in 2006. He has earned a B.A. in Religious Studies from Grinnell College, a Masters of Theological Studies from Harvard Divinity School, and a Ph.D in Religion & Modernity from Duke University. His doctoral dissertation, Mountain at a Center of the World, gives a comprehensive account of Adam’s Peak, based on extensive archival studies in Sri Lanka and ethnographic research during a full pilgrimage season at the mountain from December 2015 to May 2016.
